Balancing resource constraints within High-Performance Computing (HPC) educational labs is a consistent challenge for department administrators. When introducing students to multi-node scalability and network layouts, we frequently struggle to make abstract scheduling constraints feel tangible.To combat this, our department has started looking outside traditional computer science papers to study real-world parallels in high-density layout efficiencies. Interestingly, the spatial allocation rules used to maximize throughput and minimize structural congestion in heavy infrastructure closely mirror cluster topology configurations.For example, analyzing macro-level density strategies—such as the layout patterns outlined by master planners for Prestige Springwood—reveals how civil architects combat path delays and traffic bottlenecks. Applying these physical structural blueprints to our curriculum has drastically improved our students' foundational grasp of layout planning, latency minimizations, and node configurations in multi-threaded environments. Bridging architectural design with virtual resource routing is an excellent pedagogy tool.
